Dr. Soma M. Ghorai
B.Sc. (Zoology), M.sc (Zoology), M. Phil, Ph.D. (Immuno-endocrinology)
Dr. Soma M. Ghorai started teaching at Department of Zoology, Hindu College, University of Delhi, Delhi in 2002. She was conferred her Doctorate of Philosophy by the University of Delhi, 2002, for her thesis titled “Endocrine modulation of macrophage function in Indian wall lizard (Hemidactylus flaviviridis)”. She has taught diverse subjects to B.Sc. and Ph.D. students, including Immunology, Developmental Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Reproductive Biology, Biochemistry and Evolution. She has also published various papers on Reptilian Immunology, and Immuno-endocrinology in prestigious journals, including the General and Comparative Endocrinology, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology and Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology. She had been the Executive member of “Indian Society of Comparative Endocrinology” for consecutive three years from 2007 to 2010. She is also member of “International society for developmental and comparative Immunology” and Life member of “The society of Biological Chemists”, Bangalore, India and “Indian Immunology Society”
She has three on-going research projects namely; DST project entitled “Transcriptome analysis of immune-relevant genes in the spleen of wall lizard Hemidactylus flaviviridis”. UGC project “Localization and expression of toll like receptors in splenic phagocytes of wall lizard”. University of Delhi, Innovative project entitled “Development of Theranostics (therapeutic plus diagnostic) based product with Curcumin-Oligonucleotide-Rare earth metal based Nanoparticle probes as MRI Contrast agent”. She has 3 Ph. D. students enrolled under her supervision working on “Expression profile of TLR’s and Immune relevant genes in Hemidactylus flaviviridis” and “A comprehensive study of male genital stem cells”.
