Ankur: The Enabling Unit (Equal Opportunity Cell)

ANKUR is an empowering unit of the Hindu College, University of Delhi, Delhi, dedicated to improving the welfare and educational opportunities for students with disabilities. The society was established in September 2012 by Dr Ahmad Hasan, a professor in the Department of History at Hindu College. ANKUR is committed to promoting learning and assisting students with disabilities at Hindu College. The society’s primary objective is to create an inclusive and supportive environment that facilitates these students’ academic and personal growth. In its inaugural month, ANKUR organised a ‘Delhi Darshan’ tour for all students with disabilities. This one-day tour allowed these students to explore and learn about Delhi’s history, past rulers, architectural landmarks, and historic buildings. The event was well-received, and students expressed their delight in participating in this unique experience. ANKUR has helped establish a dedicated and fully equipped computer lab for students with disabilities. The lab has computers, scanners, printers, and internet facilities, enabling students to utilise technology for academic purposes. ANKUR has also taken the initiative to provide these resources, ensuring equal access to educational tools for students with disabilities. Moreover, ANKUR takes up matters related to students with disabilities and strives to find satisfactory solutions. Whether it is administrative issues or other concerns, ANKUR acts as a support system, advocating for the rights and needs of students with disabilities within the college community. ANKUR aims to improve these students’ overall experience and well-being by addressing these matters. ANKUR is an empowering unit that works tirelessly to enhance the welfare and educational opportunities of students with disabilities. Through various initiatives, such as the Delhi Darshan tour and the establishment of a fully equipped computer lab, the society fosters an inclusive environment that supports these students’ academic growth and personal development. Additionally, ANKUR takes up advocacy and support roles, addressing concerns and finding solutions to improve the overall college experience for students with disabilities.
