DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
About the Department
The Department faculty members have specializations in different areas of Physics, ranging from quantum mechanics, condensed matter physics, electronics, material science, and high energy physics, to name a few. The Department places great emphasis on research along with teaching. The faculty members have numerous research papers and articles in renowned journals to their credit. The students are also provided with ample opportunities and exposure to real-time research through projects, internships and summer programs. The Department has three well-maintained laboratories which are upgraded every year with the latest equipment. In addition, the Department has research labs in which the students can carry out their project work, play around with the concepts of Physics, give shape to their innovative ideas and exhibit their creative skills. Classrooms and Labs of the Department are equipped with projectors for efficient teaching.
The faculty of the department has also been contributing immensely to the corporate life of the College; many of them being actively involved in the Administrative work of the Institution, a few being staff council committees, hostel warden, innovation council and staff advisors to college societies. The students of the department have also made their mark in the social life of the college with active contributions and leading positions in various college societies, and functions being organized from time to time.
In addition to the teaching of B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics course, the Department has the responsibility of running the B.Sc. Physical Science (Electronics) course. The Department also shares the responsibility of teaching the B.Sc. Physical Science (Chemistry) course. The annual festival of the Department is called “QUARKS” and the Physics Society is “EUREKA”. Among the various events of the festival are lecture series and panel discussions by eminent physicists, paper reading, quizzing, debating, poster presentations, etc. The Department also organizes field trips, visits to national labs, workshops, seminars, and outreach programs as part of the extension activities. The students may also supplement their learning and gain hands-on experience in emerging fields by opting for various add-on courses floated by the Department in collaboration with institutes of eminence.
Our students have consistently performed well in the University examinations securing top positions. They have been enrolled for higher education in top universities/institutions, in India and universities abroad. The alumni of the Department have carved their niche in various professional areas like Civil Services, Defence Services, management, R & D's, etc. The Department provides a conducive environment for wholesome growth with inclusivity to all members and looks forward to keeping the legacy alive and thriving.
