About the Department
The Department of Economics is one of the constituent departments of Hindu College, University of Delhi. It attracts a large number of students at the undergraduate level and is rich in its diversity, comprising of students from different states and backgrounds. The department has a long tradition of imparting education and promoting research. Hindu College offers an Honours course in Economics at the undergraduate level as well as Economics to BA Programme students. It inculcates critical thinking amongst the students as well as familiarity with the economic environment. The activities promoted by the department are focused on providing an environment that endorses a plethora of opportunities to the students to fructify their career orientations, be it in the field of academic research entrepreneurship, corporate placements, development sector and myriad of other spaces.
The department efficiently nurtures its students to pursue leadership and management responsibilities in diverse industries which has led to the students obtaining prestigious placements at Nomura, Boston Consulting Group, Ernst and Young, Bain Capability Centre etc. Many students have also been offered admission to pursue post-graduate education at renowned global institutions like London School of Economics, Hong Kong University, Delhi school of Economics etc. Many of our students are teaching in prestigious universities globally; some have entered the civil services and some others have taken the off beat route and become actors and dancers.
The department regularly holds competitions and festivals under the umbrella of “L’Economiste”: the Annual Department Fest. A seasonal newsletter: The Anchor is released twice a year along with Cominomics: A Cartoon Compendium and Department Magazine: Arth by the Editorial Board of the Department. The Research Vertical also releases its Annual Research Journal: Pramaanam along with the Podcast: ‘Saanartham’. A lecture series by eminent economists and academicians is held in the form of “Econclave”. The department is active in maintaining a website (www.econhindu.com) which keeps a record of all the happenings in the department along with hosting the newsletters, magazine, research journal and podcast. The different verticals also actively use social media such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube (@econhindu) among others to create informative posts on different economic issues.
While centered on the discipline of Economics, it synthesizes with other areas of study, balancing the mathematical core with a more holistic perspective. The faculty comprises nine distinguished members who excel in their fields. The stellar faculty regularly publishes its research work in several national and international journals.

Department Magazine: Arth
The Department of Economics, Hindu College publishes its annual magazine, ‘Arth’ every year. The fifth volume of the annual magazine for the academic year 2022-23 was released on 6th May, 2023 during the farewell of the outgoing batch of 2023. Along with the sections which coincide with the department newsletter such as Editorial Articles, Arth Toons and Department News, this year’s edition also comprised crossword puzzles, a memes page, an opinion poll and an anonymous gossip section, keeping up with all the ever-changing trends while keeping the element of fun alive. The editorial articles are diverse in nature with both Hindi and English articles on a multitude of topics such as the UIDF, Climate Change and the Economy, The Implications of the Russia – Ukraine Crisis and RRBs, to name a few. The magazine also boasts of witty cartoons and puns on recent economic issues happening around the globe.
